The Kea is a large species of parrot found in forested and alpine regions of the South Island of New Zealand. Described by the locals as “cheeky birds” they are fascinated by human activity and love to rip apart backpacks, shoes, clothing, food, and anything else they can get their beaks on. Known for their intelligence and curiosity, they will most certainly pay you a visit if your hiking or skinning around NZ.
