RIDING SINCE?
I’ve been on skis since I was about three.
HOME RESORT:
I grew up skiing in Telluride, CO.
SPONSORS:
ARMADA skis and outerwear, Vitamin Water, Nordica Boots, Peak Bindings, Smith Optics and Helmets, Power Bar, US Freeskiing
IN YOUR GEAR BAG?
My ski bag is packed tight! I’ve got my AR7’s for slope style, Pipe Cleaner’s for pipe, a back-up pair of AR7’s, black Smith Maze helmet, two pairs of Smith I/O goggles, extra lenses, toques, gloves, Nordica Ace of Spades boots, a hoodie or two, poles, extra grips, my jacket and two pairs of pants.
YOUR FAVORITE TERRAIN TO RIDE?
Riding park on a sunny day when the snow is soft is definitely my favorite time to go skiing.
WHAT WAS YOUR HIGH FROM THIS PAST SEASON OF 10/11?
Winning the AFP Overall title for the year.
AND THE LOW?
I was forced to miss a lot of events and shoots that I wanted to take part in because of injuries; that was definitely the worst part about my season.
FAVORITE SKIER OF THIS PAST SEASON?
I think that Bobby was probably my favorite skier this past year. There was a ton of added pressure on him because of how well he did the year before and everyone was expecting him to win everything. I think that he handled it really well and skied like a champ and ended up winning a ton of stuff and taking home the AFP Slopestyle Title again too!
HOW WOULD SOMEONE ELSE DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
I’m not sure, that’s a hard question to answer. I guess that someone else might describe my style as technical just because I usually stick to more technical tricks than some people…
FILMING CREW?
I’ve filmed with Matchstick Productions for the past two seasons!
WORST TREND IN SKIING?
I guess I would have to say the worst trend would probably be the whole the tall t thing. I didn’t mind it at first, but the multi-colored layering of shirts that go down to the boots has got to stop…
SKI PIPE & SLOPESTYLE IS OLIMPIC IN 2014. HOW DOES THAT GRAB YOU?
Well I’ve been named to the US Team so I’m definitely stoked on the inclusion of both halfpipe and slopestyle in the Olympics. I think that our sport has a lot to offer the Olympics as long as we stay true to our roots.
WHAT DREW YOU TO BE APART OF THE ARMADA FAMILY?
Armada is an awesome company! They’ve managed to grow as a brand without losing their core values and their cool image which I think is a really impressive feat. They make quality products that I’m proud to use.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOST INTERESTING JOB EVER?
The only job that I’ve ever had other than skiing was scooping ice cream at an ice cream store in Telluride called The Sweet Life.
BEST NON SKIING RELATED TRIP YOU’VE EVER BEEN ON AND WHY?
I road tripped up to Whistler this summer and stretched the drive over the course of a week. With stops in Lake Powell, Las Vegas, Disney Land, Six Flags, LA, San Francisco, and Seattle it made the trip super fun and exciting. Other than that I definitely used to love going on family vacations when I was younger to Antigua, Costa Rica, London, etc…
THE THING THAT HURTS THE MOST?
I think that I have a pretty high pain tolerance. If I’m seriously hurt I handle it pretty well, the one thing that always kills me is getting hit in the shins; it’s the worst.
YOUR FIRST CAR?
Last year I bought myself an Audi A4 Avant that I’m pretty stoked on!
ONE THING YOU HAVE TO HAVE?
Comfortable socks… Nothing worse than socks that get all bunched up, or ones where you can feel the seams when you’re walking and you keep stopping and checking to see if there is like a pebble in your shoes or something.
OTHER SPORTS?
I like skating a lot. I hit the mountain bike jumps at the COC compound this summer in Whistler which was really fun. Now I want to buy a mountain bike and do it more often, super fun!
THE LESSON YOU LIKED THE MOST IN SCHOOL AND WHY?
English was always my favorite subject in school. I’ve always liked reading and writing and it was always the class that made the most sense to me.
WHAT DOES CREATIVITY MEAN TO YOU?
Creativity is the ability to think for yourself and to come up with ideas and ways to do things that other people haven’t thought of or done before. I think that creativity is doing what you want to do the way that you want to do it.
DO YOU HAVE A SECRET TALENT? IF YES, WHAT IS IT?
I actually love to sing. However, if anybody has ever ridden in my car or sat on the chairlift behind me when I’m skiing alone they can attest to the fact that I’m pretty wretched at it. Hah
YOUR FAVOURITE TV SERIES?
Curb Your Enthusiasm. Funniest show ever.
BEST RECENT DISH YOU HAD AND WHERE?
Sushi Village in Whistler is the best. Make sure you order the SASS roll, it’s insane!!!
